The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has called off its strike which began on August 2, 2021.
According to a statement signed by the National President of UTAG, Professor Charles Marfo and the National Secretary Dr. KK Abavare the teachers are to go back to the classroom and begin teaching from August 23rd 2021, as a sign of good faith and empathy for their distressed students.
Despite going back to the classroom to teach, the leaders of UTAG have said that they are monitoring how negotiations will go within the next month.
Meanwhile the President of Ghana Nana Akufo-Addo has told the leaders of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) in a meeting on 19th August 2021 that everyone is excited that UTAG has called off its strike after a long drama negotiation. He says this is a road map which has been established and he hopes it will be fully implemented.
”All of us are happy that the University lectures have agreed after some long drama negotiations to to suspend the strike we are hoping very much some soring binding agreement will be finally agreed on by the parties. There is a road map that has established and hopeful both parties will make sure that this road map is carefully implemented”, the President stated.
