President of Ghana Nana Akufo-Addo has hinted that the may be a replication of the Free SHS policy at the tertiary level.
The President disclosed that the intent of making tertiary education also free has been raised for discussions to achieve it just as the Free SHS policy.
The President is of the view that if tertiary education is made free, many people would be able to have access to quality education.
He hinted on making tertiary education free while speaking at the Global Education Summit which was held in London on 29th July 2021.
”For now what has been put in place is a system where students at the tertiary level are provided loans while in school to help them cater for their needs, but we are considering free tertiary education”, he stated.
He noted that the free SHS policy initiated by his administration has been a success and it has provided educational opportunities to some people who would have been at home due to financial constraint.
