Police in Madagascar have arrested 6 persons including one foreign citizen for plotting to eliminate the country’s resident, Andry Rajoelina.
According to Attorney General Berthine Razafiarivony, the 6 were arrested as part of months-long investigation into an attack on state security”. The arrest took place on Tuesday 20th July 2021.
The nationality of the foreign citizen hasn’t been confirmed yet but the Attorney General says the plot was to assassinate the President and no one else.
“According to the evidence in our possession, these individuals had devised a plan for the elimination and neutralisation of a number of people including the head of state.”
Officials did not give details on the extent of the plot or how far advanced it was when the suspects were apprehended.
A separate statement by the public security minister on Wednesday said that six people had been arrested: one foreign citizen, two dual nationals, and three Madagascans”, the Attorney General stated.
The Security Minister also said that had information about the alleged plot but was only waiting on the right opportunity to strike.
