Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has told members of Parliament that they are not above the laws of the country neither is the immunity they enjoy in Parliament extend to them everywhere.
As part of this he has advised them to be circumspect in their utterances.
”We are not above the laws. It is for good reasons because you represent a large number of people, you should be given the full immunity to be able to say whet the people say they want you to say. That is why you say it here and you are covered”.
That immunity does not extend to you in everywhere else. So please the Committee should go into the matter, submit the report”, Hon. Alban Bagbin stated.
This comes after the member of Parliament, Alhassan Suhuyini raised the issue of Kennedy Agyapong threatening to attack a journalist in Parliament after which the speaker of Parliament referred Mr. Agyapong to the Privileges Committee.
After referring Mr. Agyapong to the Privileges Committee he noted that a decision on the issue won’t come from him but the house.
That will be your collective wisdom that come to conclusion whether what is alleged is just a mere allegation or is supported by facts and whether those facts constitute contempt of the House and abuse of a privilege of members”, he added.
