About five persons have reportedly sustained gunshot wounds at Ntotroso in the Asutifi North District of the Ahafo Region after clashing with police.
They are reported to be part of illegal miners who stormed one of the mining sites belonging to Newmont who were protesting the arrest of some of their colleague miners who were accused.
According to the PRO of the Ahafo Police Command, ASP Isaac Kwame Loh stated that some youth protesting stormed Newmont premises and attacked some security officers by opening fire on them.
He disclosed that the police tried hard to stop the youth from firing but all attempts failed hence forcing the police to fire back leading to 5 people getting injured.
The PRO further said that the protestors had cutlasses and some action guns which they broke the Newmont premises with.
He further went on to say that the police is yet to arrest anyone over the incident,
