Parliament To Probe Purchase Of $19 Sputnik V Vaccines

A bipartisan investigation into the purchase of Sputnik V vaccines from Russia through middlemen at $19 per dose is set to begin as Parliament of Ghana on Thursday 8th July 2021 approved a private Member’s motion filled by seven minority MPs.

According to minority leader Haruna Iddrisu backed by minority whip and Muntaka Mubarak in moving the motion stated that the Health Minister, Mr. Kwaku Agyeman Manu deceived Parliament over the prices of the Sputnik V vaccines.

Speaking to the motion, the minority leader questioned why the Food and Drugs Authority has approved the Sputnik V vaccines although the World Health Organization hasn’t done that yet.

The Majority leader in Parliament Osei-Kyei Mensah Bonsu told the NDC MPs that they shouldn’t act differently when the tables doesn’t turn in the favour one day when a similar probe is demanded in future.

The Health Minister agreed to the probe stating that he has nothing to hide.
