On July 1, 2021 all military officers in Wa barracks who were on duty except the Duty officer when some military personnel brutalized residents have been punished.
This came to bear after a 4-member Committee that was set to probe the assault incident in the Upper West Regional Capital of Ghana bought its findings after the investigation.
Three of the personnel have been demoted while others serve jail term. They are the Orderly, Guard Commander and the Sentry. They have been demoted to lower ranks.
The Orderly’ has been moved from Staff Sergeant to Corporal, Guard Commander moved from Corporal to private and the Sentry from Lance Corporal to private.
The Duty officer, Lieutenant will later be tried.
Report also indicates that 8 more of the soldiers sighted in videos that hit social media brutalizing residents have been tried and sentenced to 30 days each in jail by the disciplinary committee.
A total of eighty-six soldiers were said to have been involved in the brutality.
