The Ghana Health Service has announced that out of 135 cases of the new Delta Variant recorded at the Achimota Senior High School, 89 students have recovered.
According to a statement by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) in a statement between the 14th and 16th June 2021, 3 students presented to the Achimota School sickbay with influenza-like symptoms.
All 3 students were investigated for COVID-19 in line with laid down protocols.
All 3 tested positive prompting the activation of the Public Health Emergency Rapid Response Teams (PHERRT) of the Great Accra Region and the Okaikoi North Municipal of the Ghana Health Service.
All 3 students were isolated following existing protocols. Other Symptomatic students and contacts were identified, listed and also tested for COVID-19. All contacts placed in mandatory quarantine on campus.
Director-General of the Ghana Health Service Dr. Patrick Kuma Aboagye stated his outfit further sampled 843 students and staff, of which 348 are boarding students, 459 are day students, and 36 of them are teaching and non teaching staff on 3rd July.
He stressed that his outfit has received about 550 samples out of the 843 of which 135 tested positive.
