Broken Homes Contributing Factor Of Crime; Fathers Must Be Responsible-IGP Advises Fathers

Following the recent rise in crime, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) James Oppong Boanuh has said fathers shirking their responsibilities is contributing to high crime rate in the country because children without guidance of their fathers go wayward.

The IGP says children from broken homes usually lack proper upbringing especially from their fathers and they end up indulging in social vices which has increased crime in the country.

He went on to say that it’s not surprising that less attention is given to father’s day celebration as compared to mother’s day because most fathers shirk their responsibility.

“We need to nurture our children to be of good behaviour. Today, it is common to see fathers ignore their financial responsibilities. It is therefore not surprising that the attention given to Father’s Day is not as much as that of Mother’s Day.”

“Most of the serious crimes that we witness today can be attributed to the increasing rate of broken homes. It is about time our Fathers become responsible, this way, a number of societal problems will be solved, he said.

He made this comment in a speech read for him by the Technical Director of the Ghana Police Service, COP Samuel Monney at the Wilmar Africa Father’s Day Awards Night and Dinner.
