Five notorious armed robbers have been arrested by the Upper East Regional Police Command of the Ghana Police Service at Zebilla, putting them all before court.
Three of the armed robbers are reportedly on remand while the two are facing 40 years jail term.
According to a press released issued by the Upper East Regional Police Command, on Monday 7th June, one 30-year-old Awinaba Ayembil Joel was on the wanted list of the Police following a robbery incident that took place at Zebilla.
After the robbery the suspect went into hiding at Wassa Akropong in the Western Region of Ghana.
He was then nabbed and arraigned before the Bawku circuit court on Friday 4th June and charged with offence of conspiracy and robbery. He was sentenced to 25 years in jail with hard labour.
20-year-old Mathias Asagba was also put before a circuit court in Bolgatanga and sentenced to 15 years in jail with hard labour.
The remaining three robbers were involved in a Highway robbery on Sunday 16th May at about 9:15 a.m.
The robbers were in the persons of Salifu Gola, Amadou Sambo and Adam Yaro. They were arrested at different locations after the incident was reported to Sandema Police.
They are currently on remand and are to appear before court on Monday June 28.
